Winterized Tents for Kohistan Families

Following heavy snowfall in Upper Kohistan, many vulnerable families found themselves without adequate shelter. Our donation drive provided 100 heavy-duty winterized tents and thermal blankets to help these mountain communities survive the sub-zero temperatures.

The winters in the Karakoram foothills are unforgiving, with temperatures often dropping to -15°C. For families whose homes were damaged or those living in makeshift structures, the onset of winter is a life-threatening event. Our specialized tents are designed with triple-layer insulation and reinforced frames to withstand heavy snow loads and biting winds, providing a safe and warm sanctuary for families who would otherwise be exposed to the elements.

Alongside the tents, we distributed high-thermal blankets and solar-powered lanterns. This ensures that even in the pitch-dark mountain nights, families have light and warmth. We've seen a significant reduction in hypothermia and cold-related respiratory issues in the areas where we've deployed these shelters. The relief on the faces of parents as they settle their children into a warm, dry space is the greatest reward for our field teams.

Your contributions covered the procurement and difficult logistics of transporting these heavy tents into remote mountain valleys. In many cases, our teams had to use mules to reach villages inaccessible by road. Your support ensures that the forgotten communities of Kohistan are not left to face the freezing winter alone, but are protected by the warmth of your kindness and generosity.
